Lifetime ‘Vette Fan Gets Dream Car in Win Dale Jr.’s Ride Raffle

MOOREVILLE, N.C. (November 7, 2024)
David Tarrents always wanted a Corvette. Now, he has one.

It’s not just any Corvette, however. This one is the Grand Prize in the annual Win Dale Jr.’s Ride Raffle for 2024 presented by The Dale Jr. Foundation.

The ‘Vette is a prime example of the legendary Chevrolet sports car, a 2024 Corvette Stingray Convertible 2LT, featuring a 6.2-liter V8 DI engine as part of the Z51 Performance Package with an 8-speed Dual Clutch Transmission, Corvette Racing Themed Graphics Package, a Carbon Flash Metallic Exterior and Adrenaline Red Mulan Leather Seats. The package as listed retails for $119,000.

To top it all off, he took delivery of his dream car by having the keys handed to him by Dale Jr. himself, shortly after officially accepting the prize.

“I’ve wanted a Corvette for years, but just couldn’t justify the cost of it,” Tarrents, who accepted the prize at the JR Motorsports shop along with his wife Julie, said. “We’ve tried winning them before. We live right near Bowling Green, Ky. (where the Corvette Museum is located), so we’d drive up there and buy tickets but never came close to winning.”

Having bought tickets for previous Win Dale Jr.’s Ride raffles, Tarrents knew all about the opportunity, but had forgotten he bought a ticket this year.

“I had actually forgotten I had bought a ticket for this, so I was pretty surprised,” he said with a chuckle. “I normally bought a couple of tickets for the old-car raffles in the past. I usually buy a couple of tickets for this raffle and only bought one this time…but I guess it was the right one.”

He and Julie were fans of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and had heard of The Dale Jr. Foundation through the website. The Foundation’s mission, which is to provide underprivileged individuals the resources to improve their confidence and education and the opportunity to achieve extraordinary goals, is something both support.

“The Foundation takes care of children with funding, and that’s one of the reasons why I buy tickets, to help organizations which helps kids,” David said. “We got the phone call, and we have a caller ID on the phone to get rid of spam. She (TDJF Development Director Jenni Leibee) said her name and that she was with the Dale Jr. Foundation. I picked it up right away.”

A sports-car fan all his life, David has had several, including a pair of MGs and a Triumph TR6. The Corvette is a dream come true. “I’m going to be nervous the first time I get in this one,” David chuckled. “We’re driving it back home to Tennessee, but it won’t be the same route we took to get here, which was through the mountains!”
